Trapped in the Center

Time will tell... The clock tolls the 6th hour on the 6th day of June. A young boy slumbers in his bed on the floorboards of his room. His name is Ken. The word in Japanese means “born of fire”. It all started in Kyoto, Japan.

The sun shines brightly outside casting a yellowish gold in his room. Morning had arrived, and he was eager for the day to begin. Jumping up all excited, he recalled what his sensei, Master Shuuichi, advised him the day before. “Be careful and cautious when this adventure occurs. It is a perilous one. Any single mistake could cost you your life.” All prepared for the new day, he walked casually to his partner’s house.

His cohort was already running out the front door toward his direction. They collided and fell on their backs. The girl looked at him apologetically. He grinned. “Hey...Mizuko,” Mizuko shook her head bashfully. “Hi, Ken.”

Her given name meant “water child”. Now standing on their feet, the duo headed for the dojo. “Who dares to disturb me, while the TV is on?” Mizuko stepped inside. “Welcome young ones! Here’s your map! Go! Go! Get out! Bye now. My favorite commercial is on.” The door slammed in their face. Ken rubbed his nose. “I wonder what that was all about. He sure was acting weird.”

“This map must be wrong... It says to go underground.” Ken stared at his friend. His motorcycle was making a noise that was deafening. “Under it is then!” The vehicle created a barrier between them and their environment. It grew a razor sharp drill, and plunged into the Earth out of sight!

Underneath the surface, the automobile purred smoothly. Mizuko started to freak out, but seeing Ken she calmed down. “You definitely are a man of little words. I thought you were just kidding! I didn’t even put on my seat belt!” The two laughed.

Mizuko took out a pencil and a tablet. Ken took notice. “Why’d you bring that?”

(Continuation)

She replied. “I have to record our adventure. It’s for memory.” He shook his head thoughtfully.

Around them was the mantle of the Earth. Mizuko was asleep in the backseat. Ken gazed at her flatteringly. A large bump interrupted his thoughts. Without warning, the motorcycle jolted downward at an alarming speed! Mizuko was evaporating at an unbelievable rate!

Ken couldn’t wake her up and they had seconds to live before they both burned up! Ken knew there was no time for pondering. “How could I have been so careless? What he said makes sense now.”

He had known that Mizuko’s body was different from your average one. Instead of her body being 70% water it was 83%. He on the other hand had less water in his body. For what reason, that was unknown at the time.

The vehicle was crackling with flames. His body warmed up unusually, but he found it rather comfortable. All of a sudden his outsides caught fire! He was about to panic, but then he remembered it was all up to him.

He rushed out of the structure. “It’s time to heat things up a notch!” Out of his palms came a blazing storm of fire. In milliseconds the motorcycle blasted through the hole like a firecracker. Therefore Ken was trailing behind it surfing on magma!

The vehicle ruptured into the oxygen-filled air, and landed on the ground. The magma that came out of the core of the Earth turned into lava. Eventually it hardened.

Ken raced to the passenger’s seat and pulled what was left of his friend out. He lay what remained on moist ground. In his favor, the moisture from the air and her surroundings rebuilt her body structure! After her buddy told her about the event that had occurred she thanked him (which he thought was most rewarding).

After they cooled down they went to Master Shuuichi’s dojo. It turned out that he was behind the cliché all along. Celebrating his triumph, Ken said, “I learned that if you’re careless, others might get hurt. Knowing that my friend was safe was even more important than my well being. He looked at Mizuko with a smile. Master Shuuichi shot him a mocking grin. “Well put...Ken.”

... The Hard Core End...

If you’re not careful in doing something others can get hurt in the process. This is another one of life’s lessons...

In light there will always be darkness...
In a group of enemies there will always be friends...
In this world of people,
Who are we to decide who is 'good' and who is 'evil'?
